The Sanitary Sewer Plan and Profile Drawings Creation is usually one of the most tedious and delicate tasks. In this video, we show you how, with our sanitary sewer design software, CLOACAS (SEWERS), creating the plan and profile drawings as well as the bill of materials is considerably simplified, freeing you from concerns related to the quality of the resulting project’s design documents.
The creation, edition, and revision of documents for any engineering project is one of the tasks that requires more time and dedication in any project; not only because of the amount of each design’s associated details, but also from the simple fact that they are what will permit the proper building and development of the associated work.
In the case of Sanitary Drainage Systems drawings, this is certainly true, and, if you will, there is even more associated complexity as it involves leaving completely clear parameters such as longitudinal slopes, invert elevations, and diameters that must be respected during the project’s construction.
With our sanitary sewer design software, the work of creating the sanitary drainage system’s drawings, specifically plan and longitudinal profiles, is greatly simplified, thus reducing the errors in the transfer of information between the calculations and the final project documents.
This allows you to be more efficient and precise in the process of creating, editing, and of course, reviewing, because all the information will be contained in a single project file in the software.
Using Annotations in the Plan Drawing, and changing color, thickness and layer visibility
When you have finished the sanitary sewer network design, as we saw in the previous video in this series, you can very easily generate the respective sanitary drainage drawings from the RESULTS tab of the software.
In fact, the software’s main window presents, at any time, the view of what will be your project’s plan but, in order to format it showing the results of the design, it is necessary that you add annotations to your drawing.
For this purpose, you have the Annotations button on the right side of the tab, which gives you access to the dialog from which you can set the properties and associated text that will be shown in the current project’s sanitary drainage system plan.
As an example, it is often a requirement that the plan view includes, for each manhole in the sewer network, the respective elevations.
Then, we activate the options by clicking the Visible box so as to activate the fields: ground or rim elevation and invert elevation.
We enter a prefix to each value and activate the option of showing the units with the annotations.
When you click OK, the annotations are generated on the drawing area and will always be located in reference to the location of the respective manhole’s label. In any case, it is possible to modify its position if necessary.
Additionally, as with the other objects in the software, the annotations have their own layer, so you can control their display through the Project’s Layers Editor.
Of course, this sanitary drainage system’s drawings created with the software can be printed or, better, exported to a drawing file so that you can edit them in programs such as AUTOCAD.
Creating Longitudinal Profiles Plans including annotations
Similarly, the longitudinal profiles, as well as serving as the design result’s visualization tool, can be supplemented with annotations for each sanitary sewer pipe section within the network.
In the RESULTS tab, you will find the Longitudinal Profiles panel, and included in that is the Format button. When clicking on it, this dialog is shown so you can format each component in the Profile titles and data bands. In this list, you will also find the available properties that can be included at each sewer pipe section.
For example, let’s include in each pipe section the diameter, length, slope, design flow, and capacity annotations.
So we select and add them one by one.
Note that from here you can change the property position or, if applicable, remove it from the list.
When you close this dialog and go to the Longitudinal Profiles view, you see those properties included in the drawing.
As with the plan view, it is available the printing or exporting of these longitudinal profiles drawings from this dialog.
Work Quantities Setting Options
Another component of any sanitary sewer project is made up of the work quantities and construction cost, so our software also includes the ability to easily generate them.
The generation of work quantities in the software begins from what you entered in the Excavation and Materials Parameters Settings dialog, which is accessed by clicking this button in the SETTINGS tab.
Here, as you can see, details of excavation ditches for pipes and manholes are presented with fields to specify the distances that will allow you to estimate the necessary excavation volumes to meet the sanitary sewer design you have made.
You will also see that three types of bedding classes for sanitary sewer pipes in the project are defined. It is possible to specify their characteristic dimensions so as to perform the excavation and necessary materials calculations.
Entering Unit Costs
Finally, for those construction items with major incidence in these types of projects, you have the option of specifying the unit cost to be used by our sanitary sewer design software, in order to estimate the total cost of the project, as we shall see now in the quantities of work tables.
Here it is noteworthy that it is important that the unit cost that you enter here be, in any case, consistent with the respective units that are used in the project. If you make changes in any of these units, the program will not perform any kind of conversion.
So, in this case, you will need to come back here to enter the corresponding unit cost related with the new specified unit.
Also consider that in the Project’s Pipes Libraries Manager, the column to specify the unit cost for the sanitary sewer pipes is available. This is also included in the total cost calculation.
Bill of Materials and Cost Tables
After you have defined the aforementioned parameters and made the calculation, you will see options to show the work quantities by manhole, by Sewer Pipe…
… and, most importantly, the construction budget for the active sanitary sewers network, where you will see that the total estimated cost has been added at the end, which would serve to compare various sanitary sewer system’s design options.
Of course these tables, as well as any table that is generated in the software, can be printed or exported to Microsoft Excel in order to give them the format of your choice.
So you have with this sanitary sewer design software, and in a single computational tool, all you need for your sanitary sewer projects.
